Using the RITES Installer

Low bandwidth and required student log-ins create a prolonged wait for Investigations to start up. We've developed an installer for all participating schools will use which will address the problem of unacceptably long download times. The procedure for installing the RITES software is explained below. For further support, contact RITES Teacher Help.

1. If the Installer has not yet been run, going to the RITES Investigations Portal and previewing or running any investigation will return this screen:

2. Be sure to check the version number, where the first four digits are the current year. You are then brought to the RITES Installer download page, which identifies your computer's operating system.

3. When the next screen appears, click Save File and the download will begin.

4. Next, find the file and double-click it to run it (the default location is often the Downloads folder, as shown below).

5. There may be a pop-up warning about signature verification or a security question. Be sure to continue and run the file.

6. Once the installer opens, click Next. The next five screens (below) will appear in order as the software is installed. Be sure that the path specified is the same as in the second screen and starts "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\" and hit Finish.

7. When RITES Investigations are accessed on the machine, they will now open without performing a large download.
